Focus on Borgo Egnazia

Borgo Egnazia is possibly the most famous resort in Puglia in 2023. We consider it a landmark development and we will seek to emulate its most successful aspects. This will feed into our design strategy and approach to future land acquisition.

The hard numbers

  • Borgo Egnazia, opened in 2010 and comprises 155 guest rooms, 29 villas, a culinary institute, a beach club, and the renowned 18-hole San Domenico Golf Course.

  • It took six years and a €150m investment to build.

  • In 2023, the annual revenue of Borgo Egnazia was €65 million.

  • The property is under the ownership of the San Domenico Hotels Group, a company held by the Melpignano family.

  • The San Domenico Hotels Group boasts a portfolio of luxury establishments including San Domenico House, in Chelsea, London.

  • In 2017, Deutsche Bank and alternative advisory firm Tyndaris, conducted an €80 million refinancing transaction for the resort through a discreet securitization mechanism.

Why we’re following it

  • The resort is very food-focused, which is something we will emulate.

  • The resort has five restaurants and three bars.

  • Borgo Egnazia staff grow some produce on-site including olive trees, jasmines, prickly pears and lemon trees.

  • Guests can learn to cook Italian dishes with cookery classes in the Trattoria Mia Cucina kitchen.

  • The buildings are made of local calcar limestone and were designed in the typical historical style of the Apulian region.

  • This resort garnered significant attention in the entertainment sphere in 2012 when it was selected as the venue for the wedding of the celebrated pop star and actor Justin Timberlake and the acclaimed actress Jessica Biel.
